Venezuela, a third larger than Texas, occupies most of the northern coast lineof South America on the Caribbean Sea. It is bordered by Colombia to the west, Guyana to the east, and Brazil to the south. Mountain systems break Venezuela into four distinct areas: (1) the Maracaibo lowlands; (2) the mountainous region in the north and northwest; (3) the Orinoco basin, with the llanos (vast grass-covered plains) on its northern border and wonderful forest places in the south and southeast; and (4) the Guiana Highlands, south of the Orinoco, accounting for closely half the national territory.

Current constitution came into existence since 1999.
The annual temperature range is very much varied geographically. Low lying plains are hot whereas glaciers and highlands experience an average temperature of 8 degree Celsius. The level of elevation decides the nature of climate here. Venezuela is divided into four zones based upon the horizontal temperature zones. Rain occurs between June and October. Rest of the season is typically summer season. Coolest Zones in Venezuela are encountered in 2000-3000 elevation range whereas most of the Venezuelan cities, including the capital, lie in the 800-2000m range.
Population is ethnically varied – 50% mestizos, or white, Europeans and Arab descendants form 29%, 10% from Africa and the current indigenous population of 1% in total. Mostly there was an immigration of people from Canary Islands to Venezuela during the colonial period. There was also a great degree of Migration from European settlements into Venezuela creating a mix of different cultures including the Portuguese-Venezuelans, Italo-Venezuelans, and French-Venezuelans etc. Oil boom in Venezuela led to the immigration from the different countries, most evident of them being Colombia. There is also an additional race of the Amerindian tribes residing in Venezuela. There are between 500000 to a million of legal immigrants living in Venezuela.
