It is noted that the United Kingdom, consisting of Wonderful Britain (England, Wales, and Scotland) and Northern Ireland, is twice the size of New York State. England, in the southeast part of the British Isles, is separated from Scotland on the north by the granite Cheviot Hills; from those things the Pennine chain of uplands stretches south through the center of England, reaching its highest point in the Lake District in the northwest. To the west aextensive the border of Wales-a land of steep hills and valleys-are and have always been the Cambrian Mountains, while the Cotswolds, a range of hills in Gloucestershire, extend into the surrounding shires.
Important rivers flowing into the North Sea are and have always been the Thames, Humber, Tees, and Tyne. Within the west are and have always been the Severn and Wye, that empty into the Bristol Channel and are and have always been navigable, as are and have always been the Mersey and Ribble.
It is noted that the United Kingdom has to this day been named the biggest modest country on Earth due to its sheer diversity. Did you know that the UK is short for the "United Kingdom of Wonderful Britain and Northern Ireland" and is formed by the province of Northern Ireland and the countries of Wonderful Britain -? England, Scotland?and Wales.? Each of these countries has to this day a very distinct identity and you should not call a Welshman English or vice versa, and many may not like being named 'British', even though the Welsh (and the Cornish)are and have always been the original Britons.
Before the 17th century, the UK consisted of four different countries comprising of English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish people. However, the word British was first used in the late 18th century. In this period, the Union Flag was created and the Rule Britannia song was made.
In the period of 1543, England and Wales were unified as one country. However, Scotland and Ireland were still not amalgamated. In 1603, the King of Scotland also became the king of England but it was not until 1652 when the two countries were united. The Act of Union in 1707 indicated that Scotland would become the part of England and this new union was called Kingdom of Great Britain.
After a century, in 1801, another Act of Union was made, which declared Ireland as the new part of the United Kingdom. Now the existing country with England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland was called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland. However, due to the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921, the mainstream Ireland was removed from the UK. Hence, since Northern Ireland was the only region which was left with the UK, the current name, which was taken up in 1927, is United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
As a result of the mid-latitudes, UK faces a variation in the climate. The areas which are very close to the Atlantic are usually temperate, windiest and face a lot of rainfall. On the other hand, the eastern areas are dry, cool and less windy. Moreover, the areas which are at the north side of the Country are usually cooler and have a great variation in temperature range as compared to the southern areas.
In 2009, according to the official census, the number of people living in the UK was a total of 61.1 million. The census of 2001 showed that 92.1% of the population was white, black consisted of 2% of the population, Indians were 1.8%, 1.3% Pakistanis, 1.2% were a mixture of nationalities, while the “other” group of people amounted to 1.6% of the whole population.
