Russia has been one of the most influential countries on the world stage in the 20th century. Since the end of the Second World War 1945, Russia, or more accurately, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States were locked in one of the tensest Cold Wars ever seen in history. Russia is the largest country in the world, occupying one eighth of the world’s total habitable land area, with a population of over 140 million people. Because of the nation's sheer vastness, it is difficult to describe the nation's climate in total. In the South there are mild winters and extremely hot summers, while the northern cities such as Moscow and Vladivostok experience cool summers and extreme winters.
Russian history begins when the Rus, a subgroup of Swedish Vikings, settled near the modern city of Kiev in the seventh century. However, Swedish immigrants are not the only people they call Russia home. Again, I feel compelled to remind the reader of the country’s massive size. For example the southern plains of Russia, were home to nomadic herding peoples known as the Tartars. Furthermore, Greek colonists supposedly settled in parts of Russia during classical antiquity. Russia completed the process of Christianization in the 11th century. However, the type of Christianity, which the Russian people embraced was not Roman Catholicism, by the Eastern Orthodox faith of Greece. It is for this reason that, Russia as well as many other Eastern European countries employ a Cyrillic alphabets rather than Roman letters. Furthermore, it is also for that reason that Eastern Orthodox Christianity has become so prevalent within Eastern Europe. Russian culture has influenced nearly every corner of Eastern European society in both beneficial and detrimental ways. For example, in October of 1917, Russian Socialist, is pleased with the outcome of the first world war, and the economic troubles in Russia, deposed the last Russian monarch, Czar Nicholas II. from 1918 until 1989, Russia, renamed the Soviet Union, was a center of the worldwide communist revolution. However, the shabby economic policies of the Communist leadership, eventually led to total collapse, which destroyed the Soviet Union as a whole. The modern Russians, although still totalitarian in nature, have attempted to embrace more democratic views, reconvening the Russian parliament and electing an executive through popular election.
However, the Russian Federation, as it is now called, is still haunted by its old Soviet past. For example, there are numerous problems which exist between Russia proper and its old Soviet satellite, Georgia. Furthermore, political and military analysts also see a similar situation between Moscow and Chechnya. Despite these domestic and international problems, Russia has become a modern economic powerhouse due to the presence of vast amounts of petroleum and natural gas beneath Russian territory. Based on this information, it is safe to say that Russia will remain a force to be reckoned with in terms of economic, political, and military strength for many years to come.
It is noted that the primary holiday season for Russians and foreigners is around the time during the warmest months of July and August, but it also rains a lot at this man's time. Did you know that the top times to tourare and have always been May and June or September and October, avoiding most of the crowds and the rain. Winters are and have always been very cold and bitter, especially in Siberia.
