Welcome to Romania
About Romania

Romania is one of the only Eastern European countries, which was more heavily influenced by Western Latin culture, than the more much more common Eastern European Slavic cultures and languages. This nation shares borders with Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, and the Black Sea. This nation has a population of nearly 20,000,000 people, who live and work inside an area that is nearly 100,000 square miles in total territorial area. Romania is relatively a young country, even younger than the United States. This country emerged when the provinces of Wallachia and Moldavia were unified under Prince Alexander Ioan Cuza in 1859. However, Romania did not gain total and complete independence from the Ottoman Empire until it was recognized as a sovereign state in 1878. While the rest of Eastern and Western Europe destroyed themselves from 1914 until 1918, Romania attempted to remain neutral. However, Romania was eventually forced into the conflict by the Allies, and attacked their neighbor, Austria-Hungary, in 1916. The Romanian attacks in the Austria-Hungary did not go well for the Romanians; by the end of the conflict over sixty percent of the Romanian territories were firmly under the control of the central powers, Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Turkey. Following the cessation of hostilities in 1918 several Eastern European principalities including Transylvania, and several others joined with Romania.

The interwar period was a time of prosperity and progress of policy for the entirety of Romania. However, Soviet forces, moving to attack German positions, occupied several areas, which were sovereign Romanian territory. By the end of the war, Romania was forced into the Warsaw Pact, and was made a member of the Eastern Bloc. At the beginning of the twenty-first century, Romanian began to reinvent itself, adopting them democratic views, and a free-market capitalist economy. Furthermore, Romania has joined the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, United Nations, as well as the European Union and the World Trade Organization.

Climate

The climate of Romania is a transitional climate between temperate and continental. Based on research is clear that although periods of extreme heat and cold have been recorded in history, that Romanian temperatures are quite mild when compared to those of other Eastern European countries.
