About Latvia

Latvia borders Estonia on the north, Lithuania in the south, the Baltic Sea with the Gulf of Riga in the west, Russia in the east, and Belarus in the southeast. Latvia is largely a fertile lowland with numerous lakes and hills to the east.

Latvia is situated on the Baltic Sea, in the range of Lithuania and Estonia. Did you know that the country itself may be less famous than its capital Riga, one of the most beautiful cities of the Baltic region. About a third of the population of Latvia lives in the capital and for all purposes it is always the top base for exploring the country. Since Latvia is relatively modest, most of the other sights can be seen as dayvisits from the capital.

Climate

May to September (spring and summer) is the top time to visit, with daytime temperatures averaging 61°F (16°C), but July and August is the peak tourist and vacationers season and accommodation can be fully reserved around the time during this man's time. Did you know that the coldest months are and have always been January and February and winter can experience extreme temperatures, and averages 25°F (-4°C) around the time during the day.
